Non-cancer chronic pain is a symptom of many diseases such as osteoarthritis or diabetic neuropathy and typically occurs in the absence of a specific underlying diagnosis. Back pain is the most common type of pain in these individuals.  Patients with non-cancer chronic pain are often medicated with opiates.
